Equipment Safety Reminders
For the 2025-26 Season

The Ontario Minor Hockey Association reminds players, parents, coaches, officials, and trainers that as the new season begins, it’s vital to check and adjust all hockey equipment for a proper fit. Key points include:

  • Helmet / Facemask & Chin Cup: The facemask should not hang loosely; the chin cup should allow just one finger to fit snugly between it and the chin.

  • Mouthguards: Must remain securely and properly in place on ice—no chewing on them or letting them dangle.

  • Neck Guards: Should cover the throat fully, be snug (but not overly tight), and not be altered. Bib-style protectors worn under shoulder pads are recommended.

  • Goalie Throat Guard (“Dangler”): Should match the helmet’s shape and size, extend past or close to the ear holes, and be tied through helmet ear holes to reduce shifting.

  • Rule Enforcement: On-ice officials will enforce Hockey Canada rules regarding improperly worn or missing protective gear. Initial violations may incur warnings or minor penalties; repeated noncompliance can escalate to misconduct penalties.

The OMHA underscores that player safety is a shared responsibility and encourages all involved to ensure equipment is both worn and maintained correctly.
