Welcome to HMHIP and thank you for your offer to volunteer!
All Volunteers are required to complete a Team Official Application before they can be considered for a position.
A volunteer must complete the Respect In Sports, Vulnerable Sector Search (Police Check), Gender Identity and Expression Course, and Concussion Awareness requirements (minimum) before being allowed on the ice with a team.
Positions Available:
HOCKEY SCHOOL
- All teams require one certified Coach and one certified Trainer.
- Assistant Coaches will only be considered where extra help is needed after the Coach and Trainer spots are filled.
- Coaches, Assistant Coaches and Trainers will assist on the ice with the Velsk8 Instructors during instruction and practice times.
PRENOVICE
- PreNovice teams will be allowed 3 Bench Members: Coach, Assistant Coach and Trainer.
- These bench members will assist on the ice with the Velsk8 Instructors during instruction times and without during practice times.
- The HMHIP Executive will provide guidelines for practices.

ACTIVITY LEADER RIS (RESPECT IN SPORT) CERTIFICATION
- RIS Certification can be completed online at http://alliance.respectgroupinc.com/secure
- When asked for your Home Association please select Hamilton HL – Recreational.
- An online payment is required.
COACH CERTIFICATION
- Coaching certification consists of an online course and 5 hours on-ice/classroom time.
- The online portion MUST be completed before application can be made for the on-ice/classroom portion.

- Fees are covered by the TDC, but a cheque deposit may be required to ensure attendance.
TRAINER CERTIFICATION

GENDER IDENTITY AND GENDER EXPRESSION FOR TEAM OFFICIALS
- There is no cost for this course
- It can be completed online at www.ohf.on.ca/coaches/gender-identity-training
- You must have an eHockey Canada account in order to complete the training. If you do not already have one, you can obtain one at eHockey Canada.
CONCUSSION AWARENESS
- Review material and the signature document are available from the Certification Representative. See the notes (below) for contact information.
Police (Vulnerable Sector Screening) Check:
- To be current, your VSS must be dated within the previous 6 months (April through October 2019).
- An Offence Declaration is required for any dated October 2016 to April 2019.
- A new Police Check is required for any dated prior to October 2016.
- Receipts can be accepted as temporary proof until the actual report is received.
- Only VSS Reports from Police Services are accepted. Employment background checks are not acceptable.
- To obtain the volunteer rate, see an executive member for a request letter. Instructions on how to obtain a Police Check are also available. Police Check Fees can be reimbursed by the HMHIP at a flat rate of $25.00 (discounted rate). See the notes (below) for information on reimbursement.

- All reimbursement requests must be made by emailing Ross Firmin and must be accompanied by a copy of the receipt.
